A strong, absorbent, versatile synthetic fabric made from natural cellulose

Rayon is synthetic fabric made from natural cellulose. It is strong, absorbent, versatile and can be made to look like other natural fabrics. When caring and washing your rayon garments, you should always read the label for instructions from the manufacturer. Some types of rayon can be washed yourself, while others might be ‘dry clean only’. In the case of washable rayon, the label will likely tell you to hand wash it and hang to dry.

Here are some tips for wet cleaning rayon:

  • Wet clean in cool or lukewarm water with mild hand-washing detergent, gently squeezing the suds into the fabric.
  • Rinse in cool water.
  • Do not ring out your rayon! Shake it out, smooth out the wrinkles with your hands and hang it to dry. Do not use a metal hanger as it could leave rust on your garment.
  • When ironing, only iron the garment inside out and use a low heat. Iron when it is slightly damp.
